Meet the Team
The DS Plumbing team is a group of dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to keep Ottawa’s plumbing systems flowing smoothly. You can find out more how we do things on our About page, and by learning about some of our efforts in the local community.
Craig originally comes from the west of England where he worked as a plumber for many years. He is married to Nelly and he enjoys rugby, Formula One racing and sailing.
Craig’s plumbing tip: “When turning a valve on, open the valve fully and then turn back a quarter turn to prevent seizing.”
Garry Kelly has been a plumbing technician with DS Plumbing for over 3 years. He is a keen soccer fan.
He is married to Krista and has 2 young daughters, Lauren and Shaelyn.
Garry’s plumbing tip: “To keep unused fixtures like showers or tubs from smelling, pour a jug of water down the drain regularly to prevent sewer gas smells from escaping.”
This is Marc’s 3rd year with the DS Plumbing family, and is our technician Team Lead. He is also a water treatment specialist.
Marc and his fiancee Cassandra have two little boys, William and Oliver.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time at his trailer, camping and helping others.
Marc’s plumbing tip: “Don’t pour grease down the sink or toilet, because when it cools it solidifies, sticks to the sides of the pipe, and over time builds up and blocks the entire pipe.”
Trevor has been with the DS Plumbing for 3 years. In addition to plumbing, he also specializes in water treatment and is happy to offer complimentary water testing and consultation.
Trevor has been married 7 years to his wife Cassandra, and earlier this year they had their first child, a boy named Sawyer. Trevor also has a pug named Freddie, and 2 cats, Eva & Abby.
Trevor had his pilots license before he knew how to drive a car and he now enjoys riding his motorcycle.
Trevor’s plumbing tip: “Use a hair trap in the shower to prevent clogs. Don’t forget to clean it though!”
Dave is the owner of DS Plumbing and has been a licensed plumber since 2003. In addition to his plumbing license he holds his gas fitter’s license, well technician’s license and cross connection certificate.
In his spare time (which isn’t often!) he reads, but he makes sure to have his daily swim. He is married to Wendy, and they have a son and daughter, and also many animals!
Dave’s plumbing tip: “Ensure your main line water shut off is easily located and can turn easily.”
Matt Lock has come from living and working in a small town, Alexis Creek, in BC for the last 2 years. He has 3 boys: Jacob, Ethan and Dylan and is engaged to Heather.
He likes fishing, and has 2 dogs and 3 cats. He plans on spending days off at his trailer this summer. He’s also a big Toronto Maple Leafs fan (but I guess we can forgive him!).
Matt’s plumbing tip: “Check your water meter periodically if you are on the city supply, to monitor for unseen leaks.”
Curtis recently moved from Grand Prairie, Alberta with his wife Sophie and their 2 daughters. Both he and his wife served 13 years in the Canadian Army, and he completed a tour of Afghanistan in 2003.
Curtis describes himself as a ‘soccer dad’, and when he has down time he enjoys cheering for his favourite hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers.
Curtis’s plumbing tip: “If your toilet rocks back and forth, that’s a sign that a leak could be developing.”
Mike is our bilingual Kinetico Water Treatment Representative. He has a diploma specializing in Water Treatment and Waste Water Management.
He spends most of his time staying active outside. Being conscious of the environment and passionate about Water Quality/Preservation is what he is most proud of.
He has two 12 year old cats, named Megatron and Trouble. Mike is also an avid sports fan, he challenges anyone to a sports conversation or a little friendly trivia.
Mike’s water treatment tip: “Over 80% of households have at least one individual in their home who suffers from dry skin, psoriasis or eczema. Removing chlorine or general hardness may improve skin quality and prevent it from getting worse in the process. ”
Sarah is our warehouse superstar and tech support person. At present she lives with her parents and her brother Zack and a bunny named Bonsai. She enjoys playing the guitar and singing in her spare time, and spending time with her boyfriend Eric.
Sarah’s plumbing tip: “If you need to plunge a sink, block the overflow first.”
Tara is our morning phone person and manages dispatch, keeping the plumbing team organized during the day. She is also our Growth Coordinator.
Tara loves acting and participates in local theatre productions. A huge Sens fan as well as an animal lover, Tara has a special place in her heart for dogs.
Mary is our newest Customer Service agent, answering the phones and ensuring everyone who calls is well looked after. She has 2 cats named Oliver and Jack and a 14 year old Shih Tzu named Dougal. She has 2 grandchildren and enjoys gardening and reading (especially murder mysteries).
Mary’s plumbing tip: “Always ensure your sump pump is plugged in and have battery back up in case of power outages.”
Wendy is the co-owner of DS Plumbing, along with her husband Dave. She works to keep the marketing side of the business moving along, and makes sure there’s always something fun like Hug a Plumber Day in the works.
She loves spending time with her family and her rescue animals, and also enjoys scrap booking and Dr. Who.
Wendy’s plumbing tip: “If you live in a low-lying area, you may want to get a backwater valve installed to prevent waste from the sewer systems from flowing into your home.”
Nancy is our Office Manager, but you can sometimes hear her friendly voice when you call. She has been with us since September 2012 and has proved to be a wonderful member of our team.
She spends most of her spare time caring for her rescue animals: 3 donkeys, 2 draft horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats (and one foster cat), and 1 husband!
Nancy’s plumbing tip: “Don’t let your husband touch the plumbing!”
Jake, Office Supervisor
Jake is our cat who likes to sit in on meetings and drink from people’s water glasses. He also likes to scratch at the meeting room door if he’s being ignored.
Jake’s tip: “Feed me!”
Tuxie, Morale Officer
Tuxie is the go-to cat for strokes and extra hair on our clothes. His favourite hang out spot is the window and Nancy’s desk. In reality, Tuxie is the true mastermind of the DS Plumbing team.
Tuxie’s tip: “Give me lots of strokes and everything’s good!”
